HyStock and EnergyStock conduct maintenance at Zuidwending energy buffer

EnergyStock is performing preventive maintenance at the Zuidwending energy storage facility in the Netherlands. Key activities include the disassembly and inspection of glycol regeneration machines and the inspection of 12 MW electric motors for compressors. To improve sustainability, natural gas that was previously flared during maintenance is now being re-compressed to prevent methane emissions into the atmosphere. Additionally, protective coatings are being applied to various installation components and concrete foundations.

Regarding future developments, the HyAlliance contractor combination, consisting of Bilfinger and Jorritsma Bouw, has been selected for the construction of the HyStock hydrogen storage facility's above-ground installation. Furthermore, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy has published a draft decision for a revised permit for EnergyStock. The proposal suggests a configuration of six caverns for natural gas storage and four for hydrogen storage, replacing the previous plan for ten natural gas caverns.

Safety preparations are also underway, with the STOREMAN exercise scheduled for November 10–13. This drill will involve emergency services and specialist incident responders to simulate a fictitious incident at a well location.
