Hyundai and Kia post mixed sales results in Europe and India

In May, Hyundai Motor and Kia sold a combined 86,444 vehicles in Europe, a 2.4% decline from the same month last year, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA). Hyundai sold 30,662 units and Kia 49,382 units, giving the two brands a combined market share of 7.5%, down 0.5 percentage points. The top-selling Hyundai models were the Tucson, Kona and i20, while Kia’s best sellers were the Sportage, Morning and Stonic. Hybrid, plug‑in hybrid and electric models contributed modestly to overall volumes.

During the January‑May period, both manufacturers saw double‑digit growth in India. Hyundai sold 266,317 cars, up 10.1% year‑over‑year, and Kia sold 139,197 cars, up 14.6%. Their market shares in India stood at 12.1% and 6.3% respectively, with SUVs such as Hyundai’s Creta and Venue and Kia’s Seltos and Sonet accounting for the majority of sales. Hyundai’s total Indian sales to date exceed 570,000 units, and Kia’s over 280,000, underscoring the sub‑continent’s importance as a fourth‑largest market after the US, Korea and the EU.
