Hyundai and Kia unveil AI-driven software-defined factory technologies
Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation have introduced approximately 200 new technologies aimed at transforming automotive manufacturing through their E-FOREST platform. Presented at the E-Forest Tech Day 2026 in South Korea, these advancements focus on the transition toward Software-Defined Factories (SDF).
The initiative integrates artificial intelligence, robotics, data analysis, and digital simulations to connect equipment, processes, and industrial information. Key features include the use of digital twins—virtual copies of factories that allow technicians to simulate production changes and equipment layouts without halting real-world operations.
Additional technologies include physical AI utilizing cameras and sensors for part manipulation and quality control, such as a camera tunnel for automated exterior inspections. AI agents are also being developed to assist employees by interpreting industrial data, accessing technical documentation, and generating operating manuals to expedite troubleshooting.
