Hyundai celebrates 40 years of automotive operations in Australia

Hyundai is celebrating 40 years of operations in Australia. Since its local debut in August 1986 via Perth dealer John Hughes and entrepreneur Alan Bond, the brand has grown from selling just eight vehicles in its first month to over 2.2 million units sold in the country.

Key models in the brand's Australian history include the Excel, which established the name in the 1990s, and the i30, which became the brand's best-selling model with over 450,000 units sold. The company has also expanded its market position through extended warranty programs and local engineering collaborations to adapt vehicles to Australian driving conditions.

In addition to its mainstream presence, the company has moved into the luxury segment through its Genesis brand, which launched in Australia in 2015. Recent luxury offerings include the G80 Black, a high-end sedan featuring a 3.5-litre V6 engine and all-wheel drive.
