Hyundai E&C enters Dutch nuclear project with Westinghouse
Hyundai Engineering & Construction has signed a first-stage basic design (FEED 1) contract with Westinghouse to support the construction of two new large-scale nuclear power plants in the Netherlands. This contract is part of a project commissioned by the Nuclear Energy Organisation Netherlands (NEO NL) to Westinghouse.
The project involves the AP1000, a third-generation pressurized water reactor. Hyundai E&C will be responsible for technical reviews of candidate sites, establishing master plans, developing business execution strategies, and analyzing local regulations, licensing requirements, and technical standards.
This move marks a transition for Hyundai E&C from establishing local supply chains to active design participation in the European nuclear market. The company is also expanding its presence in other European nations, including design work in Bulgaria and technical feasibility studies and preliminary work in Slovenia and Finland.
