Hyundai Engineering eyes North American SMR market in expert seminar

Hyundai Engineering held an internal seminar on 24 May, inviting Professor Kang Hyun‑guk of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to discuss regulatory and industry trends for nuclear power and small modular reactors (SMR) in North America. The briefing covered the evolving approval process, market outlook and opportunities for Korean firms as AI‑driven data‑center growth drives higher electricity demand. Hyundai cited its portfolio of about 250 nuclear‑design projects and said it is pursuing core SMR technology, joint development with global SMR vendors and strategic investment partnerships. The company also highlighted expanding research in next‑generation clean‑energy fusion, referencing a June memorandum with the Korean Fusion Energy Institute, and noted participation in a US‑based lithium‑boron plant project valued at roughly $20 billion.
