Hyundai updates i20 for MY27 with 5G safety technology

Hyundai has announced several strategic updates for its vehicle lineup, most notably the Model Year 2027 (MY27) version of the i20 compact car. The MY27 update focuses on enhanced safety and connectivity, introducing the Next Generation eCall system with 5G support. This technology is designed to provide more precise and rapid data transmission to emergency services during accidents.

The i20 MY27 maintains its 1.0 T-GDI 90 CV engine options, available in gasoline (with manual or 7DCT automatic transmissions) and LPG (manual only). In the European market, specifically Italy, the model is offered in Dark Line, Connectline, and Prime trims, with prices starting at 19,900 euros. The Dark Line trim now includes the option for an automatic transmission.

Globally, Hyundai is pursuing an aggressive expansion strategy, aiming to launch over 100 new models or updates by 2030 with a heavy focus on electrification. In Brazil, the company plans to expand its portfolio by importing vehicles from India and China to meet high demand for electrified models. This strategy includes introducing new models to the Brazilian market, such as a subcompact SUV, to complement the existing lineup of the HB20, Creta, and i20.
