Hyundai launches i20 in Brazil, confirms HB20 will stay in production until at least 2028

Hyundai has introduced the i20 to the Brazilian market, easing rumors that the locally‑designed HB20 would be discontinued immediately. The automaker said the HB20 will continue alongside the i20 for at least the next two years and is expected to remain in production until 2028, with remaining inventory potentially sold through 2029.

The i20 is positioned as a higher‑priced hatch filling the gap between the HB20 and the Creta SUV. Its rollout will focus on turbo‑charged automatic versions, while the HB20 catalogue will be narrowed to basic 1.0‑litre naturally aspirated engines with manual gearboxes, mainly for fleet customers. Power output for the 1.0‑turbo engines will be reduced from 120 hp to 115 hp, matching the Creta’s specification.

The three‑door HB20 sedan (HB20S) is slated to end production by mid‑2027, making way for Hyundai’s upcoming entry‑level Bayon SUV, already being tested in Brazil.
