Hyundai Mobis opens new EV powertrain plant in Slovakia

Hyundai Mobis has commenced mass production of Power Electric (PE) systems at its new facility in Nováky, Slovakia. This marks the company’s first European production site dedicated to these core electric vehicle components, which integrate an electric motor, inverter, and reducer into a single unit.

The company invested approximately 250 billion won (roughly $184 million) in the plant, which has an annual production capacity of up to 280,000 PE systems. The facility serves as Hyundai Mobis’ third electrification base in Europe, complementing its existing battery system assembly (BSA) plants in the Czech Republic and Spain.

The opening ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and Hyundai Mobis CEO Lee Kyu-seok. By establishing this local supply chain in Slovakia—a major automotive hub hosting manufacturers like Kia, Volkswagen, Stellantis, and Volvo—Hyundai Mobis aims to strengthen its competitiveness in the European market and increase its non-captive global customer revenue to 40 percent by 2033.
