Hyundai Mobis to sell lighting business to OPmobility

Hyundai Mobis has signed a definitive agreement to sell its automotive lighting business to the French supplier OPmobility. The transaction involves spinning off the lighting division into a separate entity, which Hyundai Mobis will then sell in its entirety to OPmobility.

OPmobility stated the acquisition is valued at an enterprise value of 600 billion won (approximately $443.8 million). The spin-off is scheduled for April 1, 2027, with the final transfer of ownership to follow. The lighting division, which includes the design, development, and manufacturing of headlamps and rear lamps, operates five plants across South Korea, China, Mexico, and the Czech Republic.

For Hyundai Mobis, the sale is a strategic move to focus resources on core operations and emerging growth areas such as future mobility technologies. For OPmobility, the acquisition expands its global footprint in Asia, North America, and Europe, while strengthening its relationship with Hyundai Motor and Kia. The deal is subject to regulatory approvals and a special resolution at a shareholders' meeting scheduled for November 24.
