Hyundai Motor donates 100,000 trees to combat desertification
Hyundai Motor Company has concluded its annual eco-friendly social contribution campaign, ‘Forest Run 2026’. The event, which held its final run on September 12 at Yeouido Park in Seoul, saw 6,500 participants complete a 10km course spanning from Yeouido Park to Seogang Bridge.
This year, Hyundai Motor designated the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) as its official donation recipient. Through funds raised from participant registration fees, the company is donating 100,000 trees. These trees will be planted in Niger, Africa, to combat rapid desertification and soil degradation through the WFP’s ‘Half-Moon Project’, which utilizes specialized structures to collect rainwater and assist in vegetation recovery.
Since its inception in 2016, the Forest Run campaign has seen a cumulative total of 260,000 participants and the planting of 133,850 trees. The event also featured eco-friendly initiatives such as upcycled souvenir bags made from discarded vehicle airbags and exhibitions of electrified vehicles.
