Hyundai Motor Group brands gain ground in U.S. luxury market
U.S. automotive media outlet CarBuzz has reported that Hyundai Motor Group brands—Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis—are rapidly closing the product quality gap with traditional German and luxury competitors. Citing J.D. Power’s Automotive Product Experience Allocation Loyalty (APEAL) data, the report highlights that these brands are successfully challenging the established market hierarchy by offering high-end interior quality, user interfaces, and quietness at more competitive price points.
Genesis has been recognized as a top-tier luxury brand, outperforming established names such as Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, Audi, and Volvo in recent satisfaction metrics. Hyundai and Kia have also maintained high scores, significantly narrowing the gap with premium brands like Lexus and Volvo.
Growth in the U.S. market is being driven by a diverse product portfolio. While some competitors face challenges due to slowing electric vehicle demand, Hyundai and Kia have seen significant success with hybrid models. In the first half of 2026, hybrid sales for the group increased by 65.5% year-over-year. The group’s competitive edge is further supported by investments in AI-based robotics and manufacturing automation through partnerships like Boston Dynamics, as well as internal steel production capabilities.
