Hyundai Motor Group launches $1.1 bn hydrogen ecosystem in Brazil

Hyundai Motor Group announced the start of a $1.1 billion programme to turn Brazil into a South‑American hub for green hydrogen. The plan covers production of hydrogen using renewable electricity, storage and transport, deployment of hydrogen‑fuel trucks and the investigation of small modular reactors (SMR) for low‑carbon power.

The initiative was detailed at a Korea‑Brazil business roundtable in São Paulo attended by South Korean President Lee Jae‑myung, Hyundai chairman Chung Eui‑sun, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Vice‑President Geraldo Alckmin. Hyundai will mobilise its subsidiaries—Hyundai Motor, Hyundai Mobis, Hyundai Glovis, Hyundai Construction and Engineering—under the HTWO brand to build the full hydrogen value chain, including a flexible‑fuel vehicle tuned to Brazil’s bio‑ethanol mix.

The investment follows a 2022 pledge and aims to create a regional hydrogen network, spur demand through early deployment of the Exient hydrogen truck, and develop supporting infrastructure such as charging stations and logistics hubs.
