Hyundai Motor Group moves to full ownership of Boston Dynamics

Hyundai Motor Group is increasing its control of Boston Dynamics, raising its stake to about 90% after a new investment of 120 billion won (roughly $80 million). Executive Chair Chung Euisun will boost his personal holding to 25%, while HMG Global’s share rises to 62.5% and Hyundai Glovis to 12.5%, leaving SoftBank’s 9.65% stake to be bought out. The additional capital is intended to accelerate the robotics firm’s integration into Hyundai’s manufacturing operations and to prepare for a potential Nasdaq listing.

Hyundai plans to produce up to 30,000 Atlas humanoid robots per year at its Metaplant America facility in Georgia, USA. The first units will handle parts‑sequencing tasks in 2028 before expanding to component assembly by 2030, forming an end‑to‑end physical AI value chain that combines robotics, AI software and Hyundai’s factories and logistics.

Boston Dynamics, previously owned by Google and SoftBank, has become a central element of Hyundai’s strategy to fuse physical intelligence with its automotive expertise.
