Hyundai Motor Group projected to overtake Ford in U.S. Q3 sales
Hyundai Motor Group is projected to overtake Ford to claim third place in U.S. quarterly sales for the third quarter of this year. According to data from Cox Automotive, Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis are expected to sell 511,421 vehicles, a 6.5% increase from the same period last year, while Ford is projected to see a 7.1% decline to 504,172 units.
This growth is largely driven by a strategic shift toward hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) as the electric vehicle market experiences a slowdown. Hyundai's Tucson remains a critical driver of this success, accounting for approximately one in four Hyundai vehicles sold in the U.S. The company plans to expand its hybrid lineup in North America, aiming to launch 10 new hybrid models by 2030 and increase the hybrid sales share to 50%.
In addition to the Tucson, the Palisade SUV has also seen significant hybrid growth. Hyundai leadership has emphasized that hybrids represent a major opportunity for profitability, noting that hybrid powertrains offer higher contribution margins compared to internal combustion engines.
