Hyundai Motor Group projected to surpass Ford in U.S. quarterly sales
Hyundai Motor Group is projected to surpass Ford in U.S. quarterly sales for the first time in the third quarter of this year. According to forecasts from Cox Automotive, the combined sales of Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis are expected to reach 511,421 units, a 6.5% increase from the previous year, while Ford is projected to see a 7.1% decline to 504,172 units.
If these figures are confirmed, Hyundai Motor Group will move into third place in the U.S. market, trailing only General Motors and Toyota. This shift is attributed to a strategic focus on hybrid vehicles and SUVs, as consumer demand shifts away from pure electric vehicles toward more diverse powertrains. For instance, Kia's hybrid sales in the U.S. surged by 99% in August compared to the previous year.
Additionally, Hyundai Motor Group has surpassed a cumulative 15 million recreational vehicle (RV) sales in the United States since entering the market in 1994. The group continues to expand its RV lineup with models such as the Santa Fe, Tucson, and Sorento, aiming to maintain its growing market share through a mix of hybrid and internal combustion engine options.
