Hyundai Motor Group unveils hydrogen technology vision at WHE 2026

Hyundai Motor Group showcased its integrated hydrogen technology vision at the World Hydrogen Expo 2026 (WHE 2026) held at KINTEX in Goyang, South Korea. The group presented a comprehensive roadmap covering hydrogen production, mobility, and ecosystem development.

In the production sector, the company unveiled a 5MW electrolyzer stack module (ESM) capable of producing approximately 700 tons of hydrogen annually. This technology utilizes Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM) electrolysis and can be scaled to hundreds of megawatts through parallel deployment. Hyundai also introduced its “Waste-to-Hydrogen” (W2H) model, which converts waste resources into clean hydrogen, highlighting projects in Cheongju, Paju, and Indonesia.

Regarding mobility, the group displayed the 2027 Nexo model and a new heavy-duty fuel cell system designed for enhanced durability in commercial vehicles. The exhibition included hydrogen-powered locomotives, electric buses, and trucks, alongside an AI-based automatic charging robot (ACR-H) that can autonomously identify and connect to vehicle charging ports.

Additionally, Hyundai presented a vision for a future hydrogen industrial city linked to the Saemangeum AI Valley, integrating renewable energy, hydrogen, AI data centers, and robotics.
