Hyundai plans to sell robots through its car dealership network
Hyundai is exploring the use of its existing automotive dealership network to sell robots developed by Boston Dynamics, a company in which it holds an 80 percent controlling stake. During a recent investor day, Hyundai CEO José Muñoz indicated that the company has potential distribution channels already in place through its dealer partners.
In addition to physical distribution, Hyundai Capital is investigating whether it can provide financing for robots in a manner similar to how it finances vehicle purchases. The robotics lineup could include products such as the four-legged Spot robot, used for industrial inspections, and the Atlas humanoid robot, which is nearing full-scale production.
