Hyundai recalls 14,500 Kona SUVs in Australia over seat belt safety
Hyundai has issued a nationwide safety recall in Australia for approximately 14,551 Kona SX3 vehicles manufactured between 2025 and 2026. The recall concerns defective rear centre seat belt buckle anchors that failed to meet specifications during internal testing.
Hyundai warned that the faulty seatbelts may not operate as intended, which could “increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants” during an accident. Because replacement parts are not yet available, the manufacturer has advised owners to avoid using the rear centre seat until the repair is completed.
Once parts are available, Hyundai will contact affected owners in writing to schedule free repairs at authorized dealerships. This marks the third recall for the brand in September, following previous recalls involving hybrid i30 sedans and Hyundai Tucsons.
