Hyundai recalls Palisade and Ioniq 9 SUVs over seat safety defects

Hyundai is recalling several 2026 SUV models in North America due to defects in power-folding rear seat systems that may fail to detect occupants, posing a risk of trapping and injuring passengers, particularly children.

The recall for the Palisade and Palisade Hybrid affects approximately 61,093 vehicles in the United States and 7,967 in Canada. The defect involves the second and third-row power seats, which may continue to move after contacting a person during functions like one-touch tilt-and-slide. This issue was linked to a fatal incident in Akron, Ohio, where a two-year-old child was killed after being pinned by a third-row seat.

Additionally, Hyundai is recalling 5,360 Ioniq 9 electric SUVs in the United States. Similar to the Palisade, the Ioniq 9’s second-row power-folding feature may fail to detect occupants. Hyundai intends to resolve the Ioniq 9 issue via a software update to the Seat Controller, which will be provided to dealers or delivered through over-the-air updates for compatible vehicles.
