Hyundai Rotem adopts Hyundai Motor smart factory tech for aerospace

Hyundai Rotem has signed a comprehensive technical cooperation memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Hyundai Motor Company to implement AI-based smart factory technologies within its aerospace production facilities. The partnership aims to introduce automation and unmanned systems to high-risk processes, with the goals of achieving zero safety accidents and enhancing engine quality competitiveness.

Hyundai Rotem is currently advancing technologies for ducted ramjet engines, hypersonic engines, and methane engines for reusable launch vehicles in collaboration with the Agency for Defense Development (ADD) and the Korea Institute of Defense Technology Promotion. The application of Hyundai Motor’s proven automation technology is expected to prevent production delays caused by potential safety incidents.

To support its aerospace expansion, Hyundai Rotem plans to invest approximately 300 billion won by 2034 to establish a comprehensive aerospace production and R&D hub in Muju, Jeonbuk State. The company has a long history in aerospace, having participated in South Korea’s first liquid-propellant rocket development in the 1990s.
