Hyundai Rotem and Huta Częstochowa sign MoU for Polish armored steel

At the MSPO 2026 International Defence Industry Exhibition, South Korean company Hyundai Rotem signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Huta Częstochowa. The agreement aims to explore the use of Polish-produced armored steel plates for the production of K2PL tanks, support vehicles, and other military platforms.

The partnership will involve technical and commercial discussions to assess whether Huta Częstochowa’s materials meet the necessary technical and quality requirements for Hyundai Rotem’s military vehicle programs. This move is part of a broader effort to increase the industrial dimension of the K2 program in Poland, which includes the local production of 61 K2PL tanks and specialized support vehicles.

The K2PL variant is specifically tailored to Polish requirements and is positioned as a competitor to Western tanks such as the Leopard 2A8 and the M1 Abrams. The program emphasizes technology transfer and the localization of production, allowing the Polish defense industry to develop expertise in manufacturing hulls, turrets, and other critical components.
