Hyundai Rotem completes development of armored medical evacuation vehicle

Hyundai Rotem has successfully completed the development of an armored medical evacuation vehicle, a project overseen by South Korea's Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA). The development process, which spanned approximately two years starting in 2024, was conducted entirely using domestic technology.

Built on a proven wheeled command vehicle platform, the new armored ambulance is designed to provide rapid and safe transport for wounded personnel from high-risk frontline areas to rear medical facilities. Unlike standard ambulances, this vehicle offers enhanced mobility and protection against enemy fire and harsh terrain. The interior is optimized for medical personnel, featuring high ceilings to accommodate up to six walking patients or four stretcher patients alongside two medical staff.

The vehicle is equipped with advanced medical systems comparable to civilian ambulances, including high-intensity LED lighting, oxygen supply systems, defibrillators, and patient monitoring devices. To ensure safety in chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear (CBRN) environments, the vehicle includes a positive pressure system to prevent contaminated air from entering the cabin. Beyond military use, the vehicle is expected to support civilian emergency medical services during natural disasters in areas inaccessible to standard vehicles.
