Hyundai to launch Santa Fe EREV in US by 2027

Hyundai has confirmed plans to launch the Santa Fe EREV, its first extended-range electric vehicle, in the first half of 2027. The SUV is designed to bridge the gap between traditional hybrids and pure electric vehicles by using an internal combustion engine primarily as a generator to charge a high-voltage battery pack, which then powers the electric motors.

The vehicle aims for a total driving range of over 965 km (approximately 600 miles) on a full charge and tank of fuel. It will feature Hyundai’s new self-developed battery cell technology, which reportedly offers double the power output of previous generations and reduces charging times by about 40%.

Production is slated to take place at the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA) plant as part of the company’s strategy to expand its North American manufacturing capacity. Hyundai aims to add 500,000 vehicles to its North American production capacity and increase regional component sourcing to over 80% by 2030.
