Hyundai Tucson evolution: From rare manual models to new hybrid variants
The Hyundai Tucson has undergone significant mechanical and design shifts across its generations. Historically, the Tucson was notable for offering a manual transmission option in the United States from 2005 through 2013. During the first generation (2005–2009), the GL trim featured a 2.0-liter engine with a standard five-speed manual transmission, with all-wheel drive being available exclusively for manual configurations. While Hyundai discontinued the manual option after the 2013 model year, these vehicles have become rare in the used car market.
The current generation has moved toward advanced powertrains, such as the 2027 Tucson HEV GLS hybrid. This flagship variant utilizes a 1.6T hybrid engine designed for fuel efficiency and performance. The modern design features a distinct aesthetic with sharp body lines, parametric daytime running lights, and a wide stance, departing from the softer silhouettes of previous generations.
