Hyundai Tucson surpasses 10.6 million cumulative global sales

Hyundai Motor Company announced that its Tucson SUV has surpassed 10.6 million units in cumulative global sales since its launch in 2004. Including the ix35 model produced specifically for the Chinese market, total cumulative sales reach approximately 11.17 million units. This achievement marks the third model in the Hyundai Motor Group to join the ‘10 million club,’ following the Avante and Accent, and is the first South Korean-made SUV to reach this milestone.

The Tucson has demonstrated consistent growth across its generations. The fourth generation has achieved the highest sales volume to date, with an average annual sale of 506,000 units, a fourfold increase compared to the 124,000 units averaged by the first generation.

A key factor in this success is the shift from an export-oriented model to a localized production strategy. While overseas sales account for 91% of the total, the proportion of vehicles produced in local overseas plants has risen from 4% in 2005 to 76% in 2023. The United States remains a critical market, accounting for roughly 23% of all overseas sales. Hyundai plans to debut the fifth-generation Tucson in New York on October 1 to maintain this momentum.
