Hyundai Venue identified as highest risk vehicle in accident study
A study by iSeeCars, utilizing data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), has identified specific vehicle models with significantly higher fatal accident rates compared to the average automobile. The research indicates that certain models face accident risks approximately five times higher than standard vehicles.
The Hyundai Venue was identified as having the highest risk, with a fatal accident rate 4.9 times higher than average. The Mitsubishi Mirage and Chevrolet Corvette C8 Z06 followed closely, both showing rates 4.8 times higher than the norm. Other notable models with elevated risk levels include the Porsche 911, Honda CR-V Hybrid, and Tesla Model Y.
While automotive safety has improved significantly over the last 20 years, the current fatal accident rate stands at 2.8 per billion miles driven. The findings serve as a warning for both manufacturers regarding design and safety testing, and for consumers making informed vehicle purchasing decisions.
