Hyvinkää and Nurmijärvi implement initiatives to promote physical activity

The city of Hyvinkää has introduced a new movement program for 2026–2031, developed in collaboration with North Sport Consulting Oy. The strategy aims to promote physical activity and nature experiences to improve resident well-being and economic sustainability. Key projects include the completion of the Hyvinkää Arena in 2027 and a planned 25 million euro renovation of the Sveitsi swimming hall between 2026 and 2029. The city is also exploring the construction of a large indoor hall for sports like football and athletics, as well as improving outdoor facilities such as artificial turf fields and school playgrounds.

In Nurmijärvi, a study conducted in middle schools during the spring of 2026 examined youth perspectives on physical activity. The findings indicate that while social connection, well-being, and personal goals motivate young people to exercise, social barriers such as bullying, fear of judgment, and feelings of exclusion act as significant deterrents. The study highlights that inactivity often stems from the difficulty of joining groups rather than a lack of desire to be active.
