HZMO requires proof of life from certain Croatian pensioners abroad
The Croatian Pension Insurance Institute (HZMO) has issued a notice for Croatian pensioners living abroad who receive payments from Croatia. To ensure continued payments and prevent improper disbursements following a recipient's death, certain individuals must submit a proof of life document.
This requirement does not apply to all pensioners abroad. Those living in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, and Germany are exempt. Additionally, pensioners residing in countries where HZMO has successfully completed electronic data exchange with local authorities to verify status do not need to submit additional paperwork for 2026.
Individuals who must submit the document include those living in countries without electronic data exchange agreements and those for whom electronic verification was unsuccessful. HZMO has mailed forms to the home addresses of affected users. These forms must be completed, signed, and certified by a competent authority before being returned to the Institute. The deadline for submission is October 31, 2026.
