I-405 northbound closure scheduled through Kirkland this weekend

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has announced a full closure of all northbound lanes on I-405 through Kirkland this weekend. The closure will span from 11 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, until 4 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 31.

In addition to the full closure between Northeast 70th Place and Northeast 85th Street, up to three lanes of northbound I-405 will also close from the Northeast 85th Street on-ramp to Northeast 100th Street. The Northeast 85th Street on-ramp to northbound I-405 is expected to remain open.

The work is part of the I-405/Northeast 85th Street Interchange and Inline BRT Station Project, specifically focusing on fish passage restoration. Crews plan to install a concrete culvert to reconnect the fish passage beneath northbound I-405 with the section under southbound I-405 that was completed in July.

WSDOT warns travelers to expect significant delays, including miles-long backups and increased traffic on nearby local streets and highways. A signed detour will be provided for those affected by the closure.
