I-84 bridge improvements in La Grande to cause traffic delays

The Oregon Department of Transportation has announced a two-year bridge improvement project on Interstate 84 in La Grande. Starting this week, travelers can expect left lane and shoulder closures in both directions between Exit 259 at Oro Dell and the OR 82 (Wallowa Lake Highway) overpass.

Initial work involves constructing crossovers to facilitate bridge repairs scheduled for 2027. These crossovers will shift traffic to a single lane in each direction to provide workers more space and reduce traffic conflicts. Crossover construction is expected to continue through October 2026.

The project aims to address wear on the bridges over North Spruce Street by repairing and paving bridge decks, installing new expansion joints, and rebuilding transitions between the road and the bridge. The entire project is scheduled for completion by October 2027.
