MBC ‘I Live Alone’ faces controversy over Kazakhstan trip authenticity

The production team of the MBC variety show ‘I Live Alone’ is facing criticism for changing its explanation regarding the authenticity of entertainer Jun Hyun-moo’s ‘impromptu’ trip to Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Initially, the production team denied receiving any filming support or sponsorship for the trip. However, following allegations that the trip was pre-planned and after the Almaty Tourism Board publicly stated the shoot was supported by the local tourism office, the team issued a revised statement. They clarified that while they received no monetary sponsorship or production cost support, they did receive administrative and on-site filming cooperation from the Almaty Tourism Board to facilitate the process.

Viewers have raised suspicions that the core narrative of the episode—an unplanned, spontaneous journey—was staged. Critics point to the logistical impossibility of a truly impromptu trip involving a large production crew, pre-arranged flights, and the rapid resolution of rental car procedures. The controversy has led to a loss of trust in the program’s transparency regarding its observational reality format.
