I Play Rocky biopic emerges as Oscar contender

The biographical film ‘I Play Rocky’ has emerged as a strong contender in the Oscar race following its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The film, directed by Peter Farrelly, depicts Sylvester Stallone’s struggle during the 1970s to write and star in the film that would make him a star: ‘Rocky’.

Critics have praised the production, noting that the film is a favorite for the People’s Choice Award, a traditional indicator of Academy Award nominations. Anthony Ippolito delivers a transformative performance as the young Stallone, capturing both his physical mannerisms and speech patterns. The cast also includes Matt Dillon as Stallone’s father, AnnaSophia Robb as his wife Sasha, and Stephan James as Carl Weathers.

The film explores the arduous journey of a struggling actor who, upon failing to secure significant roles, decided to write his own scripts to secure leading parts. It is scheduled for release in Brazil on November 19 via Diamond Films.
