IAEA General Conference facilitates energy cooperation for Algeria and Tunisia

During the 70th IAEA General Conference in Vienna, several nations engaged in bilateral meetings to strengthen energy and technical cooperation.

Algerian Minister of Energy Mourad Adjal met with IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi to review bilateral relations. Adjal also held discussions with Belgian Energy Minister Mathieu Bihet regarding energy transition partnerships, and Austrian Minister Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer to explore wind energy cooperation and preparations for a ministerial meeting in Algiers regarding the ‘SoutH2 Corridor’ green hydrogen project. Additionally, Adjal met with Zimbabwe’s Minister of Energy July Moyo to discuss existing cooperation.

Tunisia has established its cooperation priorities with the IAEA for the 2026–2030 period. Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Monder Belaïd signed a national cooperation framework with IAEA Deputy Director General Hua Liu. The roadmap focuses on seven priority areas: nuclear and radiological safety, health and nutrition, agriculture, water and environment, industrial applications, radiation technologies, and energy planning, including nuclear energy.
