IAG faces fluctuating share prices and expands cargo network

International Consolidated Airlines Group (IAG), the parent company of British Airways, Iberia, and Aer Lingus, is navigating a period of volatility. The company’s share price recently fell by over 10% in a single month, dropping from an early October high of approximately 441p to around 394p. This decline is largely attributed to rising jet fuel costs, driven by Middle East tensions, and intense competition within the European market.

Despite these challenges, IAG has announced strategic expansions for its cargo division, IAG Cargo, for the 2026/27 winter season. The plan includes launching a new route between London Gatwick and Colombo, Sri Lanka, with three weekly flights. Additionally, the group will increase weekly frequencies to Bangkok to six and to Delhi to 21, aiming to strengthen its presence in the Asian corridor.

On the financial front, IAG is implementing a €500 million share buyback program. While rising crude oil prices pose a risk to operating expenses, the company has hedged approximately 70% of its 2026 fuel costs to mitigate impact.
