Iași and Moldova host 2026 transport investment summits

On 18 June 2026, the Iași Urban Mobility Summit 2026 was held in Romania, organized by the Iași City Hall and the local public transport company. The event highlighted green and digital technologies for urban mobility, including electric, hydrogen‑fuelled and photovoltaic solutions, and stressed the need for integrated ticketing and information services. Representatives from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, led by Ana‑Maria Ioniță, pledged financing and partnership support for green transport projects, while mayor Mihai Chirica warned of the city’s aging, heavily polluting vehicle fleet.

Separately, Moldova convened the Transport Investment Summit 2026, a regional forum aimed at improving transport infrastructure and cross‑border connectivity. The summit gathered officials and investors to discuss funding mechanisms, regulatory reforms and projects that will boost the country’s transport network and integrate it with European corridors.

Both summits underscored the importance of public‑private collaboration and international financing to modernise regional transport systems in the coming decade.
