Iași Rally: Norbert Maior leads as organizers announce expansion into Moldova

The 42nd edition of the Iași Rally, a stage of the National Rally Championship, has commenced with 51 crews participating. Following the first two days of competition, Norbert Maior holds the lead with a 14.7-second advantage over Andrei Gîrtofan. Maior, driving a Škoda Fabia Rally2, won three of the four special stages held on Saturday.

In a significant development for regional motorsport, the Romanian Automobile Federation announced that starting in 2027, the Iași Rally will include a special stage in the Republic of Moldova. Norris Măgeanu, president of the Romanian Automobile Federation, stated the move aims to foster brotherhood through sport by extending the competition across the Prut River to Chișinău. Ruslan Ceban, president of the Moldovan Automobile Federation, also welcomed the joint project.
