Iain Armitage and Annie Potts discuss 'Young Sheldon' finale

In the oral history book 'Young Sheldon: The (Juicier-Than-Meemaw’s-Brisket) Inside Story of the Hit Comedy' by Jessica Radloff, lead actor Iain Armitage reveals he was the “most happy” when the series concluded in May 2024. Armitage expressed that he had no desire to continue playing the character as an adult, stating, “I would hate to be on a show playing 23-year-old Sheldon.” He noted that while he felt a sense of “nostalgic sad” regarding the crew and production, he found the atmosphere of mourning among some colleagues to be “heavy and annoying and weird.”

Cast member Annie Potts, who played Sheldon’s grandmother Meemaw, expressed dissatisfaction with the series finale. Potts criticized the portrayal of the adult Sheldon, played by Jim Parsons, noting that the character appeared “mean and unchanged.” She specifically cited a scene involving Sheldon’s lack of responsibility as something that “broke my heart,” comparing the appearance of the adult characters to uninvited guests “crashing our party.”
