Ian Alexander honors kidney donor through football
Ian Alexander, a 35-year-old father, is honoring his kidney donor by playing football. After suffering from chronic kidney disease since childhood and undergoing years of dialysis, Alexander received a transplant in November 2019 at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
The transplant occurred shortly after Alexander learned he was expecting a son. Having since regained his health, he has returned to the sport and now plays for the Scottish Transplant Football Team. To honor the memory of his donor, a 32-year-old woman who also loved the sport, Alexander wears a jersey featuring the message ‘Forever 32’.
