Ian Anderson marks 50th anniversary of Jethro Tull’s ‘MU – The Best Of’ compilation

Ian Anderson, founder and flautist of Jethro Tull, was interviewed ahead of the 50th‑anniversary reissue of the compilation “MU – The Best Of Jethro Tull”. The collection is being issued as a half‑speed remastered vinyl, overseen by Anderson and cut at Abbey Road Studios, with a release scheduled for 31 July.

During the video‑call interview Anderson reflected on the band’s legacy, the progressive‑rock catalogue, and his views on politics in music, commenting on figures such as Donald Trump and the role of musicians’ unions. He also addressed the cancellation of the band’s Mantova Summer Festival concert in Italy because of severe thunderstorms, sending a special message to Italian fans.

Anderson emphasized his continued curiosity, health, and desire to keep performing live while acknowledging the enduring relevance of Jethro Tull’s songs.
