Islam Makhachev sets UFC record with 17th consecutive win at UFC 330

Islam Makhachev successfully defended his UFC welterweight title at UFC 330 in Philadelphia, defeating Ian Machado Garry via unanimous decision. The victory marks Makhachev’s 17th consecutive win in the UFC, setting a new organizational record and surpassing the previous mark of 16 held by Anderson Silva.

Makhachev utilized his grappling and wrestling dominance to control much of the bout, despite facing a significant height and reach disadvantage against Garry. While the win was decisive on the scorecards, UFC President Dana White criticized Garry for a perceived lack of “killer instinct” in the final round, noting that the challenger failed to press for a finish despite Makhachev appearing fatigued.

Following the fight, Makhachev expressed a desire to compete again before Ramadan, potentially in January 2026. He identified Carlos Prates as a preferred next opponent due to his activity, though Michael Morales remains a notable contender in the division. The win also solidified Makhachev’s status as a two-division champion and the pound-for-pound number one fighter.
