Ian Griffin sentenced to five years for assaulting elderly father

Ian Griffin, a 57-year-old convicted murderer, has been sentenced to five years in prison following a violent assault on his 83-year-old father, Bernard Griffin, in Winwick.

The assault occurred in May 2025 and lasted between 30 minutes and one hour. During the attack, Griffin punched and stamped on his father, causing a fractured nose, bruising, and the loss of a tooth. Evidence presented in court included a video recorded by Griffin during the assault, in which he threatened his father to force him to sign a document transferring 50 percent of his assets to Griffin’s wife.

Griffin has a significant criminal history, including a 2014 conviction in France for the murder of his fiancée, Kinga Legg. At Liverpool Crown Court, Judge David Swinnerton designated Griffin a dangerous offender and imposed a one-year extended license period. The judge also ordered that Griffin maintain no contact with his father or the neighbors involved in the incident.

The Crown Prosecution Service welcomed the sentence, noting that the assault was ‘prolonged’, ‘degrading and gratuitous’.
