Ian Hill announces retirement from Judas Priest

Ian Hill, the founding bassist of the heavy metal band Judas Priest, has announced his retirement after 57 years with the group. Hill, 74, cited advanced arthritis affecting his shoulders, hands, and knees as the primary reason for his departure. He also noted a desire to spend more time with his family.

The decision follows a recent injury where Hill snapped a tendon in his left shoulder during a concert in Brussels. This injury prevented him from performing at a subsequent show in London, where Davey Rimmer of Uriah Heep and Elegant Weapons stepped in as a substitute.

While Hill was able to record bass lines for the band’s upcoming album, the physical challenges of performing live led to his permanent retirement. Judas Priest has officially welcomed Rimmer as the band’s new bassist.
