Ian Hill retires from Judas Priest due to health issues
Ian Hill, the longest-serving member of the heavy metal band Judas Priest, has announced his retirement from the group after 57 years. The 74-year-old bassist cited debilitating arthritis in his shoulder, hands, and knees as the primary reason for his departure.
Hill revealed that his decision was accelerated by a physical injury sustained during a recent tour. While performing in Brussels, he experienced a tendon snap in his left shoulder, which forced him to miss the band's final European tour date in London. He noted that the rigorous schedule of playing six shows in eight days left no time for recovery, aggravating his existing condition.
In an interview with Metal Pilgrim, Hill mentioned that a potential 2026 North American tour with Iron Maiden almost occurred, but the plans changed after Maiden withdrew from the initial proposal. Davey Rimmer of Uriah Heep has been confirmed to take over bass duties for Judas Priest.
