Promoter Eddie Hearn has defended Garry, stating that the fighter’s respectful personality should be embraced rather than changed. Hearn described Garry as a ‘fascinating character’ and compared his dignified approach to that of boxer Katie Taylor, maintaining that the fight was a close and competitive contest.

However, commentator Jon Anik suggested that Garry may have wasted a significant opportunity. Anik noted that by failing to push for a finish in the fifth round, Garry might have missed his chance to fight Makhachev before the champion potentially enters the UFC Hall of Fame or retires.
