Ian McKellen expresses wish to donate body to science
British actor Ian McKellen has expressed his intention to donate his body to science following his death, provided the request is accepted. The 87-year-old performer shared these plans during an appearance on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’.
Mckellen noted that because of this decision, he likely will not have a traditional funeral. He also discussed the possibility of his remains being cremated after scientific studies are completed, suggesting his family could eventually scatter the ashes, perhaps in the River Thames.
Reflecting on mortality, the actor stated his belief that there is nothing after death, comparing the state of being dead to the state before birth. He described life as an “interlude in the middle of nothingness and anonymity.” McKellen is widely recognized for his roles in ‘The Lord of the Rings’ and ‘X-Men’ series.
