Ian McKellen to reprise Magneto and Gandalf roles

Actor Ian McKellen is set to reprise two of his most iconic cinematic roles in upcoming major film productions. At 87 years old, McKellen will return as Magneto in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, scheduled for release on December 17, 2026. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have described Magneto as a central figure who must use his powers to protect the mutant species from an impending end-of-the-world event.

Additionally, McKellen will return to Middle-earth as Gandalf in ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt For Gollum’, which is anticipated to arrive in theaters on December 17, 2027.
