Ian Miller, football legend known as ‘Serge’, dies at 76

Ian Miller, a prominent figure in Australian Rules Football known as ‘Serge’, has died at the age of 76. Miller provided over five decades of service to the sport through both his playing career and administrative roles.

As a player, Miller appeared in 276 games for Perth, Fitzroy, and East Perth. His accolades include winning the Sandover Medal, representing Western Australia, being named an All-Australian, and winning two premierships in 1968 and 1978. He was also a recipient of the Simpson Medal.

Beyond his on-field achievements, Miller was highly regarded for his work as a player services co-ordinator for the West Coast Eagles. He was noted for supporting young players, particularly those relocating to Western Australia, by helping them settle into host families and providing mentorship. He is a life member of the AFL, the West Coast Eagles, and the Perth Football Club, and is an inductee into the WA Football and Perth Football Club halls of fame.
