Ian Wright criticizes VAR decision in Arsenal victory over Liverpool
Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has criticized the VAR decision following Arsenal's 1-0 victory against Liverpool at Anfield. Wright argued that Liverpool was denied a penalty during the match when Jurrien Timber appeared to pull the shirt of striker Alexander Isak in the penalty area.
Despite protests from Liverpool players, the head referee did not award a penalty, and VAR did not intervene to suggest an on-field review. Wright, who watched the match from the Arsenal supporters' section, noted that while he is happy with his former club's win, the officiating was incorrect. He stated, “VAR has made a mistake in this case. Naturally, it is about my team and I want them to win, so I am happy they took the three points. But, if they had awarded that penalty, I would not be sitting here saying I cannot believe they gave it. I would have said I am happy we managed to get a point.”
