IAPH acquires new equipment for underwater archaeology

The Andalusian Institute of Historical Heritage (IAPH) has expanded its technical capabilities for underwater archaeological research through the acquisition of new specialized equipment. The investment, totaling 119,790 euros, includes a semi-rigid vessel named ‘Linceo’ and a van configured as a mobile field laboratory.

The vessel, equipped with a 150 CV motor, hydraulic steering, positioning and navigation systems, and a sonar, will serve as a logistical support platform for diving operations, prospection, excavation, and conservation. The mobile laboratory will allow specialized personnel to work in close proximity to submerged sites.

This initiative, funded in part by the State Plan for Scientific, Technical and Innovation Research, aims to strengthen the IAPH’s position in marine archaeological research. The Regional Ministry of Culture, Historical Heritage and Sports emphasized that these resources are strategic for preserving and studying Andalusia’s submerged cultural heritage.
